Lake Winnipeg

These earrings are inspired by sunsets at my family cabin at Winnipeg Beach (Treaty 1 Territory) on Lake Winnipeg. When every one is looking west watching the sunset for the yellows, oranges and reds I’m looking east for the beautiful pinks, purples and blues. These earrings are a representation of that.

If you swipe you’ll see the inspiration a picture that was taken in the summer of 2016 when I took my little cousins for a swim one evening. I also wanted to represent them in the earrings too, so the gold beads that seem to be lost in picture 3 are actually my little golden girls Brooklynn and Makayla. These beads are the spirit beads in this piece, spirit beads may look like a mistake in a pattern, but it is an intentional flaw. Some beadworkers believe that by creating a flaw within their piece of work that they are humbling themselves before the Creator, to show that no one and nothing on this earth is perfect, including themselves.

I’m very close to my family so these are my favourite pair because I get to carry a little bit of family with me when I wear them.
